SoundBreak is an extremely useful open-source utility that will remind you to take a ‘microbreak’ every X number of minutes. This will help you not only to give your hands, wrists and fingers a break, but also to the rest of your body, especially to your eyes, back and neck. The objective is to prevent all those common injuries and syndromes derived from keyboard overuse.
Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS), and CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) are just some of the consequences of spending too much time sitting and typing at your computer without a break. SoundBreak’s simple functionality will remind you every X number of minutes (typically, between 5 and 15 minutes) of taking a break by playing back any of the sound files provided or your favorite melodies. SoundBreak will silently sit at the background without interfering in your activities, but it will efficiently prompt you to take a short break following your preferences.
You can define both the number of minutes between reminders and the sound files to be used. The program can use a different sound every time, so that these reminders do not become so repetitive and boring that you start ignoring them. Configuring this free tool takes barely a few seconds, and it can be set to launch automatically every time you start your computer.
